I replaced one tube type at a time trying to eliminate an upper midrange edginess. The problem lessened after each replacement but did not go away completely until all the E-H tubes were gone.All the "small" tubes now are new old stock. I alternate between Amperex 6DJ8s and Matsushita/National 7DJ8s, and utilize RCA 6SN7 GTA blackplates (short glass), and RCA 5U4GB blackplate rectifier tubes. Power tubes are current production Tung-Sol KT120s. The resulting sonics are exceptional smoothness, superb detail, and a rich and warmish tonality. I love it.
