That's a ton of cable for a passive preamp.
A buffer will present a high input impedance and have a low output impedance, so yes, this would help your situation. The difference between an active preamp and a buffer is some murky water.
The article you linked to suggests that the Placette is a 9K passive preamp (so your output impedance will vary accordingly).
