Yep tubes matter. What get's really scary is when you have an amp or preamp that has a rectifier tube and then you change this and the sound changes dramatically from a power supply tube!

On my Ayon Crossfire III I have rolled all the input and driver tubes to good NOS and the rectifier to an Ayon 5U4G...only the output tubes are not NOS (there is no NOS for the Ayon 62B output tube).

For my NAT preamp, I have either NOS Tesla PCC88 or Telefunken PCC88 tubes. The power supply is using Russian NOS tubes.
