I think adding the tubes and power - you're up a notch. If you really need power why not look into the MKiii monoblocks.
What I would do is try it with the Gold Lion KT88s first - one amazing tube! And I believe that still uses the 12BH7 driver tubes - also excellent.
I'm using the ST-70 and I no longer feel a need to buy anymore stereo gear. I listen to classical music and never feel that it runs out of steam with heavy and complex passages. Complex music - no problem. And my speakers are 86db.
My vote - GO FOR IT.
