Pretty much all passives are more transparent vs their active counterparts. The issue is whether the passive kills the dynamics of the music and if it is full bandwidth. Matching of components is more critical with a passive in the system.
How does the Schiit compare to your CJ PF-R? I once owned the PF-R and thought it was an outstanding preamp.... other than the volume control being a little touchy.
