I had a very positive experience with the 8004, the prior generation Marantz. Well built, phono was excellent in my opinion, and it was very transparent with Gallo Strada speakers which resolve well. I highly recommend it.

I would also look at the new NAD c368. This is a much more sophisticated platform, and what NAD has been doing with amplification over the last few years is very impressive.
