I've not read the full thread to see if this has already been answered, but amps need to be matched to speakers at the very least. If you are driving a ported minimonitor, for example, that is easy to drive, a tube amp will be OK, but if you have any woofer greater than 8 inch, and it is an inefficient speaker, you really want a solid state amp to control the woofer. And the impedence swings of the speaker will determine how much current and damping factor you need, and so on..
So when hunting for an amp, you need to state what the speaker will be. Or if the speaker comes later and you just want a good sounding amp and you will match the speaker to it later, please state that.
