FWIW, I chose a Mac 6500 over a Plinius 8200 Mk II because of musicality. If you are driving 4 ohm speakers, do not need the equalizer and are willing to forego the autoformers, then the 6500 may be a good choice. New for maybe 2600, used around $2K. Both the 6500 and 6900 put out 200W into 4 ohms. I spoke with the Mac tech and he said basically the same thing as my 2nd sentence above.
You may find it worth your while to listen to both with the same speakers and see if there is a major difference.
