Re: Carver Pro ZR versus Audiosource 6.1T / 6.2T Tripath Amps

Dr D., you wrote "they freely admit that they lucked out on the voicing of the ZR amps, whose Tripath chipsets are apparently real devils to implement properly."

That's extremely interesting. I'd also heard some skepticism of low-priced implementations of the Tripath chipset because of these issues, e.g., the claim that Bel Canto had to work really hard to make it sound good.

Can you repeat, or refer us to, your discussion of how Phoenix Gold "lucked out" in the voicing of the ZR amps? I'd be really interested to read the 'back story'.

Also, have you or any of the other owners contacted Sam Tellig to get him to try one of these out? He loves to "discover" giant-killers, and he's responsible for the PS Audio HCA-2 being categorized as Stereophile Class A (despite some mediocre measurements). Isn't it also based on the Tripath, at about $1,500 more?

But I should probably shut up, lest I go back online and discover the price has jumped and they're back-ordered 2 months!

DrD, Have you heard the 6.1T/6.2T? Stercom says he owns the 6.2T. I'd love to get one! I've inserted a link to Stercom's description of the 6.2 below. Stercom, any Stercomments?
