In my friend's store the darned things took about 250 hours to sound their best. He also had a minor problem with his amp, but with Scott Franklin around it was a snap to fix.His models have the paper-in-oil caps and that, I think, is what took so long to break in. The caps just take a hellish long time to break in but...when they do... The amps are amazing! Run full range into the Schweikirt VR4 they create an enourmous soundstage with effortless power and extention into the bass. And all the good things above...They do not, however, have the quite transparency or immediacy of OTL's but do have their own qualities. (Power, more Power....)
