Depends - did you have this problem with your stereo before you had the Bryston? If not then it's the amp.
As for saying it can't be the amp - sure it can. I was looking to buy a Bryston pre/pro commbo - I heard an 8 Watt SET on the same system in the same room and the latter had deeper bass, clearer everything and could play at lower volumes "cleanly" while with Bryston's combo I felt the need to crank it up to make things out properly. Perhaps high negative feedback was the problem.
Regardless, the main thing is to be sure it's the amp's fault and not the speaker/source.
