If you only want one system by all means go the home theater route. An Arcam or Cambridge Audio AVR sounds great in stereo.

I have a dedicated two channel system, but I enjoy watching music videos (Kraftwerk, for example) on my home theater.

Another possibility - get a high end headphone setup for two channel listening. The Sennheiser HD800's with a good (VERY GOOD) amp are pretty amazing.

There is a very interesting review of the Parasound P7 where it's compared to a Marantz AV pre and a very expensive German pre. Google for the Parasound and you'll find it. It raises very interesting questions about how similar good gear is these days.
