"The stock control is a log type, it is too touchy for setting crossover levels."

A log pot at 50% rotation is -20dB, a linear is -6dB.

If you need a fine degree of adjustment over a small range (as when adjusting levels with an electronic crossover) it is easier to use the linear. I was using a passive line-level crossover with no adjustments, so I needed better control than the stock pot offered.
