As you say, it may be due to the insensitivity. However, and I have just noticed this, on 1-2 recordings of Bruckner's Romantic Symphony (especially Celidibache) the very quiet opening bars are distorted quite badly at high volumes. Warm-up helps a lot. Using the AVVT tubes helps a bit more. But it is there.

I'll work through the new speaker issue slowly.
