Ralph Karsten has been building tube amps professionally for decades. Bob Carver has built one model ("Silver Seven") as another of his circus tricks and has now "updated" it with the KT120's and more power.
If you look at the Atma-Sphere's you will see that there is a good gap between the tubes in one axis and a smaller gap in the other axis. In one of the posts below it notes that the tubes emit more heat out two quadrants of the tube than the other two. I would assume that Ralph has enough experience to orient the tubes correctly for lowest temperature and maximum life.
