still. I started even more modestly with a Fisher 500c vacuum tube FM stereo receiver. A sleeper amp if you move up a bit later on because you need more power is the CJ Premier 4. That is 100 wpc using 8 EL34 tubes. Used these can be had for 750 to 1000. I still have my modified Dyna ST-70 with the Kennedy modified front end in it, and my current favorite EL34 amplifier are my older Klimo EL34 mono blocks that cost me 1K used. Very good sound need not cost all that much loot. To me the most important place to start is with your speakers. No matter how expensive your tube amplifier might be w/out the best sounding speakers to hear what your amplifier is capable of folks can end up spinning their wheels.
