Last week I posted a couple of messages asking for ideas on a tube amp for a first-timer. Well, I finally found something in my price range - a Sophia EL34 - already broken in, with upgraded capacitors. It will require a step-up transformer, but that should be no problem. (Before I bought it I did some research on the Web, and reviews have been uniformly favorable.) By the lofty standards of this group it's probably nothing to write home about, but I think I'll be happy with it as my first all-tube amplifier, especially for less than $600 delivered!
