It's been my experience (I work as a repair tech currently) that often things don't exactly match up with schematics, especially if a given manufacturer builds things in a smaller volume, or the product had a long production run, or both.Usually, if things have been revised, whoever drew the schematic will notate a revision number, or revision date, or serial number range. Check your serial number against the schematic if there is one.
All that said, given how tube gear is so much more sensitive to resistance than solid state equipment, I would get in touch with Conrad-Johnson and check to make sure the 50K pot is going to be fine in that application. If I remember correctly, with tube preamps it is usually risky to lower the value of the volume pot by a significant amount.
Good luck,
BT
