I liked the little Creek OBH-12 better than the Adcom GFP-750. In my setup, the Adcom killed the dynamics. The OBH-12 is a great bargain especially used.
I also had the McCormack TLC-1 which was very transparent but somewhat "thin" and cold sounding.
The best passive I've had was the Placette Audio passive linestage (which is essentially the same thing as their passive volume control except that the passive linestage has 3 inputs instead of just one). Not only was the Placette extremely transparent, it didn't kill the dynamics, it wasn't thin or cold sounding, it just passed everything intact including excellent midrange and bass with no treble roll off.
