Depends on your bias. Do you prefer a:
1. Sweet sounding preamp with textured mids and massive emotion & soul (and you usually get rolled highs too). Dehavilland Ultra verve - sounds great and romantic, but a bit over emphasized fullness for my long term taste.
2. Realistic sound of a tube preamp that articulates the full frequency bandwidth. Herron, Wyetech Jade or Pearl, CAT signature (you get to deal with Roger too and the man is an ass, but the product is good...wonder how Wyetech sales would be if Keith Herron or Judd Barber ran the company?) The Herron and Jade sound similar with the Herron producing smoother transients and the Jade & Pearl being more dynamic and stronger bass. The CAT (in my system) produced a smooth and dynamic sound - not as dynamic as the Wyetech, and not as smooth as the Herron...but a nice balance.
