My friend got one of these GE amps and I have to say, I was impressed. It's not as attractive as a Scott, but it does have some good "skills". The amp uses a 6973 pentode output stage, with a separate rectifier for the screens. Driver stage is 6AW8 pentode-triode, configured similarly to the Scott. These tubes are both available readily (6973 new from Russia, or NOS from eBay -- the 6AW8 driver should be very cheap and will last a long time). The GE amp has very tight bass -- I'm not at all surprised that he was able to use it for subs (but that's still a sad story, since it is overall a nice-sounding amp). Either will likely require some restoration to guarantee reliable use (and optimal sonics) into the future.
I would personally keep the GE since it's a bit more rare, unless I felt particularly attached to the Scott, or if the Scott was in notably better condition. I think the Scott chassis looks a bit nicer, and it should have better resale value since it is well-known, but the GE is a fantastic amp, and may have the potential to outperform it. A real sleeper, frankly.
