Quite the contrary, if done correctly, switch-mode power supplies are more immune to power supply variations and dirty AC power than traditional toroidal power supplies. Of course, implementation is key and any given component with a switch-mode power supply could sound crummy. I've owned amps, preamps and CD players that employed switch-mode power supplies, all to good effect. Some very high-end products use these power supplies, such as the vaunted Linn CD12, Linn Klimax amplifiers and Jeff Rowland Design Group amplifiers. I can't comment on the Norh amp, however.
