Re: Could You Please Explain.......

TBG,

A triggered amp is one that turns on (and off) when it receives a low-voltage signal from a control device (usually a pre/pro or receiver) via a special connecting cable. It's a very simple feature and carries with it a great deal of convenience. You simply remote on your receiver-pre/pro and all the appropriate amps for the mode you will operate in will turn on automatically.

Let's say you have a pre-pro connected to a pair of two-channel amps that biamp your mains. Additionally, you might have a 5-channel amp to drive the center and side and rear surrounds. Finally, you might have another 2-channel amp driving a second zone (patio, deck, etc.). With a proper triggering system, if you fire up the pre-pro to listen to stereo music, only the two amps connected to your mains would turn on. If you then decided to play the music on the deck as well, you would activate the second zone via the pre-pro's remote and the trigger would fire up the second zone 2-channel amp. Finally, if you had enough music and switched over to watch a movie, the pre-pro would fire its triggers to turn off the second zone amp and turn on the 5-channel. Good controllers have multiple trigger outputs that are programmable based on source/mode selection. Hope this helps.

Austin
