I agree with you. I recently bought a pair of SMGc's on ebay. I was trying to find info on the net about the diff. between SMGa's and SMGc's, but was not having much luck. I decided to call Magnepan directly and pose the question to them. Had to leave a message regarding my query and got a call back within the hour. The return call to my message started something like this:
"Hello I'm calling from Magnepan, you had a question about our speakers. Well, this is Jim Winey, what would you like to know?"I was taken aback that Mr. Winey had actually taken the time to return my call. We had a great conversation and he steared me towards the SMGc for my system. We also talked briefly about the MMG as an option, but after learning what I was going to pay for the SMGc's he advised me to get them. He did say that the main purpose of the MMG is to give you a chance to experience the Magnepan sound and get hooked on it. He also mentioned that over 50% of their business is from return customers. No surprise there. I'll tell you this, my SMGc's have more than gotten me hooked on the Maggie sound. I love it! They appeal to my tastes and paired with a subwoofer, the sound is full, clean and airy. And the soundstage is wonderful.
