GregI'm glad that it's working for you. I have to figure out how to optimize for this setup and experiment some more. I'm guessing that having the speakers further apart and focusing them via toe-in to actually hit the back wall at two points that are around 8' apart might help to focus images better in the stage.
Just some basic tweaking has given me some very interesting results, with a holographic sound. Using this method firing into an even, reflective wall, without any diffusive elements, makes perfect sense to me. You are relying on the reflection to create the soundstage, so the more even and reflective that wall is the better.
The strange thing I find is that when I'm listening in the 'normal' position I hear many room anomalies such as slap echo and some bass/mid-bass peaks/troughs. But when I'm in the new position it's almost like room reflections and anomalies disappear completely, leaving a very natural and coherent sound.
Have fun with this and let us know if you find some variations on this setup that work well.
Cheers
Rooze
