I have not tried this on a 1.6 but I did experience a tweeter failure with an older MG2 some years ago. The fuse was bypassed. The power amp was on. The interconnect cable to the amp was accidently pulled. This resulted in a loud zap followed by the smell of burnt plastic and smoke filling the listening room. The woofer and tweeter conductors was were still intact but the mylar had split all along the bonded conductor.I would expect the QR in the 1.6 would fail in a similar manner. The metal foil tweeter is a very good heat conductor. In an overload situation, much of the heat in the foil is cooled by the surrounding air. If heat builds up more rapidly than the cooling rate, then the mylar membrane would have to take some of the heat load- which the mylar does not like to do. Mylar does not tolerate heat as well as metals, so it will likely melt before anything happens to the foil.
