ESL-63 stands open or closed?

This is a good time to get opinions about whether stands used to elevate Quad-63s ought to be open or closed underneath. It may be worth noting that the Arcici stands and Quad's own Stand and Deliver stands are open underneath. Presumably that allows sound to wrap around under the speakers. On the other hand, some stands are solid and do not permit sound to roll around under the speakers. I have read that Peter Walker often demonstrated 63s that were placed atop kitchen chairs. On the other hand, photos of his 63s at home are not on stands at all, and, of course, the front of the speaker base is solid.
I have always used Stand and Deliver stands for my 63s. I think they improve the bass and look well. I am not a fan of Arcici stands for three reasons. I find them rather unappealing visually, they clamp to the sides of the speakers often marring the frame or grille cloths and, lastly, the two stands are not connected to each other, which means that if they are not carefully placed they can torque the Quads delicate frames.
