the LRS is no longer my budget pick ,,,,,

after living with the LRS for over an year and hearing it at other locations I have decided that is no longer my budget pick in the thousand dollar price point having been replaced with the :

Focal Alpha 50 Evo 5" Mixing Monitor

this is a self powered studio mini monitor which uses a analog internal cross over and can be purchased for around $500 per pair on line.

this speaker uses many trickle down technologies from Focals high end audio models such as the wave guides and driver material science .

being self powered there is no need for an amp which is a huge cost savings over the Maggies.

these speakers provide a far more life like presentation overall - better and much more realistic vocals , and extremely larger sweet spot. Bass extension is similar on both but just as fast and more realistic on the Focals. the Maggies do there thing and there is a coherency to their sound that is attractive but its also a double edge sword as there is a smearing which occurs having a single membrane doing it all. Surprisingly the little 5 inch driver is highly dynamic,,,, bass is not wooffy or fartty ....or bloated ,,,, the soundstage also has height !
