Ribbons, because of the way they are made move more easily than planars that have limitations as they move since they are being stretched which fights movement. But they handle power better than ribbons which is why ribbons are generally only used as tweeters. Ribbons due to their freedom of movement and delicacy due to their thinness can't handle being pushed like planars which is why planars make full range speakers and ribbons don't. But note that the top Maggie tweeter is a ribbon, not a planar and there's little question it's better than Maggie planar tweeters.
