When I bought my bargain pair of 57s I was living in a small house and didn't have room to use them so I stored them in the loft for the future.
I wrapped them in a double layer of large bubble warp and then covered in cling film/saran wrap all over the outside to keep the dust out. In that condition they ended up being shipped stateside in a container with all our other belongings. The shippers may have added blankets, I can't remember, but they survived the journey intact and operable.
