RE: MGIIIA: solder used to connect ribbon to wires that go to crossover

There is a copper/tinned tab at each end of the ribbon that will accept either push-on female 'spade' connectors, or they can be used as solder pads. The ribbon is already connected/soldered to those spade connectors. The tabs where the wires attach will accept standard tin/lead solder, silver solder is not required.

The safer method would be to attach (by crimp or preferably solder) the crossover wires to female spade connectors of the right size, but then you have a non-bonded connection at both ends which are subject to oxidation/conductivity problems.
