SL-63's aren't "completely crossoverless." Neither are the ESL-57's.
In the ESL-63, capacitors and inductors are used in a network that increasingly blocks mids and bass from the central electrode "rings" of the panel, so that the center of the panel is essentially a tweeter. They're called "time delays" but another name for a time delay is crossover filter.
