RE: DIPTYQUE RIBBON .... the French Maggies

They use neodymium magnets - much stronger than the ceramic magnets used by Magnepan - so these speakers might be more efficient.

I can't really picture how the larger, lower frequency driver is made. But the small-ish length of the tweeter ribbon makes me want to see a THD plot of these things. The reason that the Magnepan ribbon tweeter is so long (er, "tall") is that smaller ribbons have pretty bad 2nd and especially 3rd order distortion at the bottom of their range. Now, if these French ribbon tweeters were crossed over at 4 kHz then it would likely not be a problem. But the Magnepan tweeters can work well as low as 1,500 Hz with very respectably low levels of distortion, so unless the mid/bass panels of these French speakers are really wonderful, I would expect any ribbon-equipped Maggie to be more to my liking.
