I finally got the LRS to be rock speakers,,,,,,

So this was a little bit of a journey but I finally got the LRS to be fire breathing dragons with tons of bass and dynamics but more importantly - great rock speakers.

Of course room placement was critical and that was done by moving the sofa and spending 2 solid hours playing with speaker position which I got close and was insanely fiddley. When I got everything to pop into place soundstage wise I then used a laser measuring pointer to fine tune the distance from my chin to the corner of each speaker - dialing them in within a "bee's dick."

so that took care of sound stage and imaging but resulted in a one seat sweet spot - which is why I love omnis -oh well

the LRS are mounted on MYE stands with buck shot in bags over the base and very importantly tie wrapped to the diagonal cross strut. The speakers beamed if placed vertically so I kept the lean back position.

spikes on brass pucks - onto a hard wood floor

DIY pure silver interconnects made of thin wire inside mailing clear plastic tape - insanely good by the way

Home depot plain solid 10 ga copper electricians wire

vintage Eagle iverson amp - huge current reserve as they were designed to run APOGEE speakers at 2 ohm

first generation Rega 1 cd player

here is the key change - got rid of the Woo output transformer less preamp and replace with a PASS labs DIY B1 buffer to match up impedances.

and THAT did it - the LRS exploded with dynamics - things like upright double bass are palpable / rock songs which are drum heavy are breathtaking and explosive / trumpet and piano which are the real test are holographic and alive with the only negative being the bass extension being limited to 50 hz - but its a real 50 hz - not a made up spec

One other point is that I am very experienced with tube amps and surprisingly the system is not harsh , gritty or strident in the treble - really neutral sounding - not romantic or lush like an old Quicksilver amp but very low fatigue.

most important is that its a very musically involving system for less then what many spend on a tone arm.
