Please forgive me it's been a while since I have seen a 98 speaker. There is one other thing to check before getting in to the panels.

With the 98 series the factory increased the bias drive voltage rather significantly. Much too high. This can also cause the problem you are having. I always turn this voltage down to lower levels like the 63. The 05/12 series have the lower voltage.

You will need a DVM that goes to 750-1000VAC to make the measurement. A single resistor to change to adjust the voltage. Drop an email or give me a call I can walk through the procedure.
