Power supplies are better used. Each one has to only handle transients on that channel if driven more in any particular music passages. If the bass requires more power each channel has it's own power supply, not shared with other speaker.
Allows for the same sonic signature top to bottom, instead of taking chances on a mis-match (assuming you mean differing amps, otherwise no benefit in this regard).
Per E-Stat, added: better separation as each channel is effectively running mono.
Others may feel horizontal is better in other ways, as one can use a more costly amp for the MRT, cheaper for the bass. I feel there is a sonic signature from top to bottom however, so vertical is my preference.
