Second System story / LRS content

After retiring and moving into a much smaller home, I was able to have a decent HT setup, but no real listening area. I was able to keep some nice equipment to use in the HT. I was finally able to clear one of the second bedrooms 12x14 with a bay window at one end for a stereo system. I originally set it up with some vintage stuff I had, a Onkyo Integra 8009 140 watts and able to drive 2 ohms, and some M&K S-1B speakers. I was surprised how good it all sounded, a little rough on the highs, but enjoyable. Being a Maggie guy for like forever, I started thinking about some LRS's in that small room. Surprise surprise, a pair popped up for sale on CL, with Magna risers included. I drove 6 hours to get them. Took a bit to get the setup right, and they showed the short comings of the rest of the system. I was able to rearrange a few things and got My Ayre power amp and W4S Dac (to use as a DAC and a preamp) into the LRS system. Holy crap, things improved DRAMATICALLy. I've owned a lot of high dollar equipment over the years and I have to say that in this room it is one of the most enjoyable I have owned. I guess the bottom line is that LRS's work great in a small room with proper setup (that triangle thing that works well for most speakers is not the way to go for the LRS's) and to get the best from them, a high quality/powerful amp seems to help a lot. Probably not the best there is in inner detail and resolution, but with great music coming out of them, I don't really give a rats butt. Long story, but I'm hoping that helps someone down the line.
