After almost 19 years of almost daily use, I thought it was time to shake things up a bit!
With the incredible amount of performance I have been able to coax from the 1.6s by doing all of the mods over the years, I don't expect the stock 1.7is to unseat them right out of the box, but we shall see.
I wanted another pair of one series speakers for another room, so why not? I doubt the new 1.7is will stay stock for long around here. ;)
I'll give these a week or two to settle in, and then report back with my impression of how they stack up to what I remember of the stock 1.6s (I used mine stock for the first 8 years I owned them) and the one of a kind model I fabricated using the 1.6qr drivers that are my current reference speakers.
