Active is clearly the way to go. Especially if you can gain match different amps / topologies.

For a crossover like the Marchand? One KEY is choice of crossover point and slope. Having a choice MIGHT get expensive.

Cheaper might be something like the MiniDSP where you could do all the experimentation necessary at the 'touch of a button' than send off for the Marchand modules?

I'm CERTAIN the 'extra headroom' of the higher power tube amps was too the good. Maggies just like power....
