I have both the 3.6R and the 1.6QR...-

(I bought the 1.6QR new/stock, used it that way for a while and then had it "Gunn'ed" before wanting to try the 3-series), and would suggest going with the 3.6R. The true ribbon tweeter is a game-changer compared to the quasi-ribbon, with decisively better extension and real resolution, IMO. With good program material, the "air" and detail that they have is remarkable. The 3.6 will take more work with placement to get the same coherence as the smaller two-way model, though.
I am using my 3.6Rs in a 13 x 14 ft (4 x 4.3 m) room and they sound great. They actually sounded worse in two larger rooms in which I tried them.
The other advantage the 3.6R will have is being relatively easy to actively bi-amp, if you were so inclined to do so at some point down the road. Just my two cents.
