You explained your position fairly well. I guess I just don't necesarly agree.
I had a fairly $$$ 'D' amp from PSAudio. With the ASP modules.
It got under my skin and eventually I sold it.
My replacement? A Pair of Parasound A23, one per speaker. That' was an improvment over the D' amp and will actually play louder, though less power On Papaer.

I guess I've just reached THAT point where it may not be worth more to me even IF someone could demonstrate 'better'.

At one point, I too, considered pass amps. I was aiming for a pair of the XA-30.5 with one per speaker and a MiniDSP active crossover.
