Yes, cleaning the fuse contacts made a difference. But it was not totally solved. There was still a strange lack of presence on the right side of the soundstage. Now that I've solved it, I can describe the problem as sounding like an out of phase signal on the right side, and noting that raising the volume on the right channel did not make it sound significantly louder. The resolution: A reflection of the out of phase back wave from the right speaker was bouncing to the left wall, then to the right wall, and to the MLP. The reflection was delayed by 18ms compared to the direct right channel signal. I verified the source of the reflection by moving absorbers around and measuring impulse response, and of course listening to reference recordings.
Note in the accompanying drawing the path of the reflection from the right speaker, AND that no such problem existed for the left speaker because the reflected wave from the left went out the door! And I never had this problem before recently moving the speakers because (looking back at previous measurements and drawings) the rear waves were always either blocked or deflected away from the MLP.
The problem was resolved by placing a 3x3ft absorber on the right wall at the red X.
