you still need to consider placement optimization even with subwoofers. Magnepan's are bipolar planer which means you have the rear wave to consider. Also toe in and tweeter inside/outside placement decisions depending on your room layout.
that being said, having a subwoofer or better yet, multiple subwoofers can help even out the base response.
