Exactly! As I have been wont to say a lot lately in other forums "Doveryay, no proveryay"!

Trust your ears, then TEST your ears. No doubt NOBODY ever put the cheap fuses ... or jumpers, or cables ... back again to verify that the sound reverted to its horrid past.

Several years ago I was at an audio show in NYC and Mark Levinson (himself) had a demo room with a line out the door. He was demonstrating some software processing plugin called Burwen Bobcat, that purported to improve the sound of MP3s. It sounded great ... he said "doesn't it sound great?" ... and someone asked "could you turn it off so we can hear the difference?" ... he said "no we don't have time for that, but doesn't it sound great?"
