Definitely spot on. Look, if you want to tackle the job of replacing the bass panels then you can buy quality ones from Florian Weingand; you can't buy a better product from anyone else. You'll also need a lot of expertise to replace them.

Otherwise, you're sending them to one of the authorized installers for an expensive refurb. With that said, and I don't know how much the current cost is, when they are rebuilt, they can simply be one of the best performers ever.

You'll still need the space and the right amp to hear them at their best. Space may be difficult to produce, the amp is not - several can do the job.

A friend of mine had the 1-ohm versions, original parts and an H2O Audio S250 Signature amp. WOW! I bought the same amp hoping to find a pair of Scintillas. I never did but "settled" for a pair of Acoustat 1+1 and Model 1. Also "wow".
