Obviously no one can predict the future (or even be fully aware of the present). E.g. this a (rare?) example of a 1.7 problem:

I wouldn't putz around possibly wasting both time and money, and buy a new 1.7i. If I couldn't afford them now (and there's no shame if that be the case), I'd stay out of the game until I could.
