There isn't a better value in electrostatic speakers that I know of, price vs. performance and durability. I know of people using large VTL/Manley tube amps, Moscode and Berning hybrids, and Threshold/Krell/SandersSound/Coda solid state amps, just to name a few. Most users say that the beefier the better, but like other speakers it depends upon how large a room you're placing them in.
I haven't listened to the Monitor Four yet, however, I imagine it improved upon the already good X model in significant ways.
