As someone down below has suggested, I too suspect bias voltage is the culprit. Unless you really know WTF you are doing, it is best to leave the repair to a pro. For transformer interface repairs/rebuilds, many people seem quite happy with Roy Esposito for that work. Roy was an engineer with Acoustat while they were in bidness. He does work on Acoustat interfaces. I have no affiliation with Roy, but an email address for him is below.
Whatever you do, do NOT trash these speakers. The repairs are likely to be way less than $1k, and you simply cannot replace the capability of your Acoustats for anything less than double or triple that amount. Get them repaired. Contact Roy.
