Dr. B, the biggest difference is that the H-frame is inherently more structurally stiff than the W, due to the construction of the two designs. The side panels of the W are free to resonate, unless one does either (or both) of the following: 1-Double the side panels (gluing a second side panel onto the first); 2-Install a brace in the cavity of the frame connecting the two side panels (a dowel will work), at the front edge in the middle of the frame's height. Either tactic will greatly stiffen the side panels, reducing their resonance.

Danny Richie has a woodworker making his H-frame design, using 1.25" MDF and pre-drilled and routed for easy assembly. The frame is not much harder to assemble than an Ikea dresser, requiring only clamps and wood glue. He sells them for around $500/pr plus shipping.
