Similar experience in my room. It's 12.5'x26.5'x8', speakers 6' from front wall, listening potition 9' from speakers. Definitely absorption in the first reflection zone. And I'm somewhat inside the 8' range for QRD's (though that is wavelength dependent) with side and overhead panels around 6' away. Rear of the room is 10' away so I have some 1D diffusion back there. I think the QRD's work better in that close distance than the 1D panels.
